“After nearly five years of marriage Billy Joel & Katie Lee Joel have decided to separate,” a rep for the couple said. Quick side note - I went to college with Katie and the idea that she’s married to Billy Joel has always been a little surreal. Also, he’s old enough to be her father and then some.
“This decision is a result of much thoughtful consideration. Billy & Katie remain caring friends with admiration and respect for each other.”
New York’s Daily News spotted Lee, 27, dirty dancing with Yigal Azrouel, 36-year-old Israeli-born fashion designer (obviously she likes ‘em young and rich). Azrouel has frequently escorted her to events in the past and according to the Daily News, he’s called her his “girlfriend.”
Joel was 55 years old when he wed Katie Lee, then 23, at his 15-acre waterfront Center Island estate in Long Island, N.Y., in 2004.
