Kate Winslet Wins Court Battle

Kate Winslet Wins Court Battle
Academy Award winner Kate Winslet is getting a $40,000 apology from British newspaper, Daily Mail. The paper ran what Winslet said was false allegations claiming she had lied about her exercise regimen.

The headline, "Should Kate Winslet win an Oscar for the World's most irritating actress?", which ran in the paper on January 30th, came just three weeks before her Best Actress win for The Reader. Winslet, 33 made a statement back in January to reporters saying she was taking it "easy" on herself with the hectic awards season underway and the paper claimed she was lying, paired her words with several revealing photographs of the actresses and ran the story.

In London's High Court on Tuesday, the paper accepted the allegation and agreed to pay Winslet for her troubles including legal costs. Although Winslet didn't attend the hearing, she made a statement saying, "I am delighted that the Mail have apologized for making false allegations about me. I was particularly upset to be accused of lying about my exercise regime, and felt that I had a responsibility to request an apology in order to demonstrate my commitment to the views that I have always expressed about body issues, including diet and exercise."
