Jessica Simpson’s racial faux paux

When Barrack Obama is done with his beer summit, Jessica Simpson needs his help. The singer has started trouble by using a Native American stereotype in an interview.

When asked if she would take back the expensive speedboat she bought for her now ex-boyfriend Tony Romo, Simpson reportedly told gossip website TMZ: “I’m not an Indian giver.”

The phrase refers to a person who gives a gift only to later demand its return. It is said to be based on the stereotype that Native American people are untrustworthy.

Jacqueline L. Pata, executive director of the National Congress of American Indians, has defended Simpson, claiming many people did not understand the racist meaning of the term.

“Most people flippantly use the comment ‘Indian giver’ without realizing its true meaning. Jessica’s comment provides us with a good chance to educate people not to stereotype Native Americans by using a comment that is both incorrect in the way most people use it, and culturally insensitive to Native people,” she said.

Meanwhile, Simpson has reportedly been “devastated” by claims Romo was having an “emotional affair” with another woman in the months before the couple split (of course, rumor is he ended it with her because she had text messages on her phone from ex-John Mayer).

Simpson reportedly introduced Romo to Natalie Smith backstage at one of her concerts in February and Tony has been accused of sending the girl “flirty texts” since.

A friend of Natalie’s said: “Natalie and Tony are not officially dating, but they are having an intimate relationship.”
